
In a significant crackdown, authorities in Kyankwanzi District have detained five individuals accused of a series of cattle thefts that have plagued the region.
On July 10, 2024, Wamala regional police spokesperson SP Racheal Kawala reported the suspects were apprehended with the stolen cow inside the car.
The suspects had ingeniously adapted a Toyota Prado's interior to transport the stolen cattle, demonstrating a high level of sophistication in their operations. The police also confiscated the vehicle used in these crimes.
According to police, the arrested have been Identified as Kagulire Farouk, Sebungye Ronald, Kenge Fred, Oneno Ssegawa Vincent, and Kalyango, alias Younger.
Kagulire was recently released from Masindi prison on June 25, 2024, after serving three sentences, while Kalyango had previously absconded bail on a cattle theft charge in Kiboga District.
SP Kawala emphasized the ongoing efforts of security forces in the Wamala region to intensify operations against livestock theft, aiming to restore peace and security to the community.
