
The Bunyoro Kitara Diocese has raised sh100 million of the sh400 million needed for the consecration of Rev. Can. Jacob Ateirweho as the new Bishop.
The consecration ceremony, set for August 11, 2024, at St. Peter’s Cathedral in Hoima, will mark Rev. Can. Jacob Ateirweho as the 6th Bishop of the Diocese, succeeding Bishop Samuel Kahuma, who is retiring at the age of 65.
Fundraising efforts are being led by sub-committees in Bunyoro and Kampala. The Bunyoro Kitara Diocese committee is chaired by Rev. Erick Twine, Dean of St. Peter’s Cathedral, while the Kampala committee is chaired by Kigorobya County MP David Karubanga.
Rev. Twine reported on Tuesday that sh100 million has been collected so far, leaving a sh300 million shortfall as the event approaches. "We have established several committees to assist in organizing this significant ceremony for the diocese, and according to our budget, we need sh400 million," he stated.
Rev. Can. Ateirweho, the Bishop-elect, is currently undergoing orientation with former Bishops of the Diocese.
Elected by the House of Bishops on April 17, 2024, at the Daniel Uganda Mission Leadership Centre in Lweza, Ateirweho was priested on July 23, 2006, and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Divinity from Uganda Christian University. Born on August 24, 1968, in Hoima Hospital, he accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior on April 5, 1991, and was ordained a Deacon on February 5, 2006.
