CFAO Mobility Uganda, the authorized dealer for Toyota brands, has introduced the all-new Toyota RAV4 Hybrid Electric to the Ugandan market. This innovative crossover SUV, combining advanced technology, efficiency, and performance, marks a significant step in the company’s commitment to eco-friendly and technologically advanced vehicles.

Following the success of the Corolla Cross Hybrid, the launch of the RAV4 Hybrid reinforces Toyota’s dedication to sustainable vehicles in Uganda.

Mr. Ronald Kaluule, Sales Executive at CFAO Mobility, highlighted the vehicle's advanced hybrid system during a test drive in Kampala. “The Toyota RAV4 Hybrid is equipped with a high-capacity hybrid battery that stores electrical energy generated during driving and regenerative braking. This powers the electric motor, allowing the vehicle to operate in electric-only mode at low speeds, reducing emissions and saving fuel.”

“The electric motor can also power the vehicle independently during low-speed driving, contributing to fuel efficiency and quieter operation,” Kaluule added. “This allows drivers to save significantly on fuel.”

The RAV4 Hybrid features a self-charging system that replenishes the hybrid battery through regenerative braking and engine power, eliminating the need for external charging. This intelligent switching system seamlessly manages power distribution between the petrol engine and the electric motor, optimizing performance and fuel efficiency.

With a push-button start system, a maximum output of 131 kW, and 221 Nm of torque, the RAV4 Hybrid offers a smooth and responsive driving experience. The A25A-FXS engine, part of Toyota’s Dynamic Force Engine series, is known for its efficiency, performance, and reduced emissions.

Safety and convenience features include a reverse camera, parking sensors, SRS airbags, a multi-terrain anti-lock brake system, a spacious interior, generous ground clearance, and a minimum turning radius of 5.5 meters. The RAV4 Hybrid can accommodate up to five passengers and has a towing capacity of 800 kg.

Given Uganda's average fuel price of UGX 5,500 per liter, the RAV4 Hybrid's fuel economy is a major selling point, with an EPA-estimated 41/38 MPG (City/Highway) compared to the ordinary RAV4’s 27/35 MPG. This makes it an attractive option for Ugandan buyers looking to save on fuel costs.

The hybrid model’s powertrain combines a gasoline engine with an electric motor, offering superior performance with 16 additional horsepower and faster acceleration from 0 to 60 mph than its gas-only counterpart, ideal for Uganda’s congested roads.
